Chania Airport is officially known as Chania Ioannis Daskalogiannis International Airport and tt is owned by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority.
The airport was named after the Cretan rebel against the Ottoman Empire. The airport was built in 1954 in of Maleme, which is only operated domestic flights until 1959 when it was moved to Akrotiri Peninsula, also known as Souda.
Souda is popular for Americans visiting their relatives as it has a NATO base nearby, it is also an existing military airfield by Hellenic Air Forces.
Chania Airport is situated in the North West and is just 15 km away from Chania city centre, which you could use public transport to get there, a bus which is served by KTEL and the single fare is 2.50 euros.
It has frequent services to Chania centre, Souda Chania Port, and Rethymnon town, by taxi it takes about 30 minutes to get to the city centre and the cost is approximately 25 euros or if you want a more easy, quick, and comfortable method of transport you could rent a car.

- Damage to property of up to €750,000
- Theft of up to €20,000
- Windscreen damage, property damage for uninsured car, legal protection insurance for car, owner and driver up to €20,000 each
- Private accident insurance: death or permanent disability, treatment costs of up to €30,000 will be covered.
